This new program is quickly becoming a high caliber performance unit on the field and an outstanding representative of the University in parades and other special events. Visit the membership page on this site for more information and submit your form. Give us a call or e-mail with any questions. MUSIC DEPARTMENT CELEBRATES 100 YEARS2009 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Department of Music. The TUMB will celebrate by featuring special guest performances by faculty and students during the football season. The first week of November will highlight the achievements of the department with performances in Dixon Hall. More on Mardi GrasThe TUMB was featured in four parades in 2009: Krewes of Pontchartrain, Krewe d'Etat, Thoth and Rex. The band was joined by the newly formed "Wave Walkers" and school spirit was on display all along St. Charles Avenue. The new, collectable green and blue TUMB doubloons were plentiful, and the band got some great t.v. coverage. More than twenty miles total marched, and still smiling. 2008 Fall Season Round-upA tremendous band camp in August got us rolling. Season highlights included guest artist SOUL REBELS BRASS BAND along with music students of the RECOVERY SCHOOL DISTRICT & the SMU MUSTANG BAND, plus Bob McIntyre's THE LAST STRAWS Dixieland Jazz Band. Successful road trips to LSU and the University of Houston gave new audiences a good look at the TUMB - thanks to both host bands for their hospitality. (Special thanks to Green Wave alum Chef DC Williams and HSC Catering in Houston for an amazing post-game meal!!!) And we were happy to host music students from Lafayette Academy Charter School for an interactive rehearsal. SPECIAL THANKS TO LOCAL BUSINESSES & FRIENDS: The support shown by the business community of Greater New Orleans, alumni and non-alumni, is an excellent indicator of the enthusiasm the community has for this revival of Tulane University's Marching Band tradition. Thanks to everyone who is helping to make this a great season a reality! Take a look at the list on our "Support the Band" page, and please say thanks to these friends next time you visit their establishments! ALUMNI BAND TAKES IT BACK: The tradition continues...members of the Tulane Alumni Band played a big role at homecoming. In addition to playing with the TUMB in the stands, our alumni were featured at half-time. Bob McIntyre's group the Last Straws led the way, with other alumni joining in for the Second Line finale at Tad Gormley Stadium in city Park. Special thanks to Dr. John Suares (class of '33) for joining us yet again. TUMB Night at the Opera: Members of the TUMB performed in the New Orleans Opera Association production of "La Bohéme" in April, 2007. Costumed as the French military band, featured at the end of Act 2, our members marched and played through the aisles of McAlister Auditorium to a rousing response from the enthusiastic audiences, leading the main characters along the way! Bravo to Jenae, Lindsay, Amanda, Eric, Nick and Kris for their outstanding effort and participation with the broader cultural community. TUMB 2006 DEBUT SEASON: For the first time in three decades, Green Wave fans were treated to a fully outfitted band on the home side of the Superdome. The Tulane University Marching Band made its historic football debut on September 30, 2006. Earlier that morning, the city awoke to a feature article about the Band by Angus Lind in the Times-Picayune. Based on the audience response of the Tulane faithful, the performance was an overwhelming success. We thank the SMU Mustang Band for performing at the game as well. On October 7 the TUMB followed up with another set of rousing performances as the Green Wave defeated Rice University. The Rice MOB (Marching Owl Band) shared much more than the football game day with us. The following morning, members of the MOB were joined by students of the TUMB in a community service project gutting houses in New Orleans. From all of us in NOLA...thank you MOB! On October 28 the TUMB set the pace for homecoming, featuring the music of hometown favorite Louis Prima at half-time, with the Green Wave bringing home another victory over Army. Our final two shows featured the music of Chuck Mangione, plus a special Thanksgiving "turducken" finale! IN THAT NUMBER: The TUMB was featured at the Superdome for a SAINTS home game on October 29, 2006. The band performed for half-time as a new inductee to the Saints Hall of Fame was introduced. The Tulane Fight Song, Second Line and the band's own unique arrangement of The Saints Go Marching In highlighted the performance. Who Dat! GET ON THE BANDWAGON & SUPPORT THE BAND: The year ahead will be exciting and challenging. The students and staff are working to set a high standard of performance, of which we can all be proud.
